เคยสงสัยมั้ยครับ ทำไมห้องเรานักเรียนมันเงียบกริ๊บ ถามไปไม่ตอบสักคำ นักเรียนก็ขี้เกียจ ไม่ตั้งใจเรียน สาเหตุอาจจะประกอบด้วยหลายปัจจัย แต่อีกอย่างหนึ่งที่สำคัญก็คือ ‘Growth Mindset’หรือภาษาไทยที่แปลว่า ความคิดเติบโต เป็นแนวความคิดที่ได้รับความนิยมเป็นอย่างมากในปัจจุบัน เพราะสามารถนำไปปรับใช้ได้กับทุกคน ทุกเพศ ทุกวัย ในหลากหลายบริบท ส่วนคำที่ตรงกันก็คือ Fixed Mindset
Growth Mindset vs Fixed Mindset
คนที่มี Growth Mindset มีความเชื่อว่า ชั้นสามารถเก่งขึ้นได้ ถ้าพยายาม ในขณะที่คนที่มี Fixed Mindset เชื่อว่า คนเราเกิดมามีความสามารถจำกัด ไม่สามารถพัฒนาได้ ผมจะยกตัวอย่างสถานการณ์ให้เห็นภาพ
สมมุติว่า มีเด็ก 2 คน สอบตก
คนที่มี Growth Mindset มักจะคิดว่า
“ชั้นผิดพลาดตรงไหน ทำอย่างไรครั้งหน้าถึงจะมีคะแนนดีขึ้น ถ้าเราพยายามต้องทำได้ดีขึ้นแน่ๆ”
ส่วนคนที่มี Fixed Mindset จะคิดว่า
“เออ ดวงไม่ดี ข้อสอบยาก อ่านไปก็เท่านั้น คะแนนไม่ดีขึ้นหรอก บรัยส์”
Mindset ไม่ได้เป็นตัวบ่งชี้ว่าเด็กคนไหนเก่งกว่ากัน แต่เป็นสิ่งที่ชี้ว่าเด็ก 1 คน เมื่อเจอเหตุการณ์ต่างๆ หรือ อุปสรรค แล้ว เค้าจะตอบสนองอย่างไร ปัจจุบันยังไม่มีบทพิสูจน์ว่า Mindset นั้นติดตัวมาตั้งแต่เกิดหรือไม่ แต่ที่แน่ๆคือ Mindset สามารถพัฒนาได้
Growth Mindset กับ ห้องเรียน มันเกี่ยวข้องอย่างไร
ในแต่ละวันเด็กคนหนึ่งต้องเจอกับอะไรมากมาย ถึงแม้เราจะเป็นพ่อแม่, ครู เราก็ไม่มีทางอยู่กับเด็กได้ตลอด 24 ชั่วโมง หนังสืออ่านไปก็ลืมในเวลาอันสั้น แต่สิ่งหนึ่งที่จะติดและคงอยู่ไปอีกนานก็คือเจ้า Mindset นี่แหละ แล้วในฐานะครูคนหนึ่ง ถ้าเราอยากสร้าง Growth Mindset ให้เกิดขึ้นกับนักเรียน จะทำอย่างไร?
สถานการณ์ที่เหมาะที่สุดที่จะสร้าง Growth mindset ในตัวนักเรียนสำหรับผมเลยคือ ตอนที่นักเรียนตอบผิด ที่ผมเลือกสถานการณ์นี้เพราะเกิดขึ้นบ่อยมากกกกโดยเฉพาะวิชาเลขนี่แทบทุกคาบ คนเราทุกคนพร้อมจะผิดเสมอครับ
3 ขั้นตอน สร้าง Growth Mindset ในห้องเรียน
1) เดินเข้าไปหา และคุยกับนักเรียน เดินเข้าไปหา อย่าเอาแต่ยืนอยู่หน้าห้องครับ ถามเลยว่า งงตรงไหน ไม่เข้าใจอะไร จากนั้นลองอธิบายให้นักเรียนฟังช้าๆ อาจจะช่วยทำไปพร้อมกันก็ได้ ตอนที่เราใส่ใจนักเรียน เด็กจะมีสมาธิมากขึ้น และรู้สึกว่า เออ ข้อนี้มันก็ไม่ยากนี่หว่า
2) ‘ไม่เป็นไร เอาใหม่’ คำนี้เป็นคำที่ผมพูดกับนักเรียนบ่อยมากๆ ถึงแม้จะทำไม่ได้ข้อนี้ สิ่งที่สำคัญคือกำลังใจครับ เคยดูฟุตบอลใช่มั้ยครับ จะเห็นหลายครั้งที่ทีมที่ชื่อชั้นด้อยกว่า พลิกล็อคเอาชนะ ทีมใหญ่ได้ ส่วนหนึ่งคือแรงใจ อย่าลืมว่าในห้องเรียน คนที่สำคัญที่สุดคือนักเรียน ให้กำลังใจเค้าเยอะๆครับ
3) ชื่นชมที่ความพยายาม และให้ Feedbackสุดท้ายบางคนอาจจะทำไม่ได้สักที การชื่นชมความพยายามคนคนหนึ่งที่พยายามเต็มที่จะทำให้เขามีกำลังใจในวันต่อๆไป เมื่อชมแล้วก็อย่าลืมให้ Feedback ไปด้วยว่า ควรฝึกฝนตรงไหน หรือทำอย่างไรจะเรียนได้ดีขึ้นในครั้งต่อๆไป
สร้าง Growth Mindset ง่ายขนาดนี้เลย ?
ตอนนี้ครูหลายๆคนที่อ่านอาจจะเริ่มคิดว่า นักเรียนมีตั้ง 40 คน จะไปทำยังไงไหว หรือ เข้าหา 1 คน พวกที่เหลือก็วุ่นวายพอดีแน่นอนว่า 40 คน ทำไม่ไหวหรอกครับ แต่เราไม่ได้เจอนักเรียนแค่ครั้งเดียวนี่นา ลองตั้งเป้าเล็กๆ ก็ได้ครับว่าในวันนึงเราจะเข้าหานักเรียนให้ได้ 4 คน ต่อคาบ 10วันก็เก็บครบทั้งห้องแล้วครับ แล้วถ้านักเรียนคนอื่นเริ่มวุ่นวาย จำไว้เลยครับ คาบหน้ากลุ่มนี้เสร็จชั้นแน่ (ลึกๆ ผมเชื่อว่าครูทุกคนมีความสามารถทำให้นักเรียนเงียบได้แน่นอน)
ที่สำคัญ ถ้าอยากให้นักเรียนมี Growth Mindset ครูเอง ก็ต้องมีเช่นกัน อย่าลืมว่า การสอนจะบ่งบอกความเป็นคุณ (You are what you teach) ลองทำตามขั้นตอนนี้บ่อยๆ จนเป็นวัฒนธรรม เชื่อผม 1 เทอม ห้องเรียนจะเปลี่ยนจากนักเรียนเงียบกริ๊บ ไม่ตอบ ไม่อะไร กลายเป็น ห้องเรียนแสนสนุก คึกคัก ไฟลุกท่วมเลยทีเดียว
